Testing for College Credit
Earn Free College Credit with CLEP!
The CLEP program, administered by the College Board, offers students the opportunity to earn college credit by demonstrating their knowledge in various subject areas. There are currently 34-CLEP exams, covering subjects such as history, economics, government, mathematics, science, literature, business, and foreign languages. Successful scores on these exams allow students to bypass certain college courses, have FREE college credit added to their college transcript, potentially accelerating their college careers and reducing the number of credits they must take and pay for. CLEP scores for credit are accepted at more than 2,900 schools across the country, including many here right in Oregon. For more information about the benefits of CLEP, visit College Board website.
Starting Fall 2026, Summit is proud to offer reimbursement for CLEP Testing!
This opportunity is limited to the first 10-students to complete testing and request reimbursement - we are currently only able to guarantee ONE reimbursement per student.
To be eligible, students must:
- Be enrolled with Summit at least 2-terms prior to reimbursement
- Pass the CLEP Exam with a minimum score of 50
- Complete the CLEP Reimbursement Form and submit required documentation (see Steps for Reimbursement below)

Fulfill Requirements!
- CLEP exams are offered in many areas that could fulfill both high school and college degree requirements (like Math, Civics, Economics, and US History).
- In addition to earning up to 16-college credits (number of credits is dependent on scores), by successfully completing a foreign language CLEP Exam (available in French, German, and Spanish), students have the potential of fulfilling the Reading and Listening Evidence for the Oregon Seal of BiLiteracy.
Key Facts about CLEP
- Students take CLEP exams at official CLEP test centers or at home with remote proctoring.
- CLEP exams are offered year-round at more than 2,000 CLEP test centers worldwide.
- CLEP exams contain multiple-choice questions.
- Students receive their CLEP exam scores immediately after completing the exam (except for College Composition and Spanish with Writing).
- CLEP exams take about 90–120 minutes to complete, depending on the exam subject.
- Anyone can take a CLEP exam.

Learners who complete our courses can take the exams through the College Level Examination Program (CLEP), which are recognized for credit by nearly 3,000 colleges and universities, for free.
Courses are self-paced and can be completed at any time! Once completed, students can submit for a FREE CLEP TEST VOUCHER through Modern States!

College Board offers FREE Resource Guides and Sample Questions for each exam, as well as CLEP e-guides (available for purchase).
CLEP e-guides contain practice questions, exam description, information on getting credit for CLEP, and test-taking tips and strategies that are available by subject in separate, downloadable PDFs.

Steps for Reimbursement
- Register for your CLEP Exam through College Board (save your receipt!)
- Make sure to enter Summit's CEEB Code (380171) when registering!
- Study for and take your Exam (only scores of 50 or higher are eligible for reimbursement)
- Complete the CLEP Reimbursement Request Form (upload of receipt and scores required)
IMPORTANT INFORMATION & FAQS!

Yes! Once you have successfully completed an exam, students will complete the CLEP Reimbursement Request Form. Students interested in being awarded high school credit should note that on the form and a Summit Counselor will be in touch regarding potential high school credit!

The CLEP is offered at official test centers throughout the state and also offers at home remote proctoring for an additional fee.

Yes, testers are required to have a government-issued physical identification OR they must complete a Student ID form prior to test day in order to test (examples of acceptable IDs can be found on College Board's What to Bring on Test Day webpage).

Summit will reimburse students up to $150 for a successfully completed CLEP exam with proof of purchase (receipts!).
